If he goes to a less desirable spot, he’ll be a Round 2 value in the rookie draft.
Like McConkie, Adonai Mitchell replaced Xavier Worthy in Round 1. Mitchell is a polarizing prospect as the analytics aren’t great but the physical profile is hard to ignore. He’s still just 21 years old and has 4.3 speed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. That last sentence alone was enough for some to project Mitchell in Round 1, so it would be surprising if he wasn’t selected early on Friday evening. Mitchell will rank somewhere between pick 12 and pick 20, depending on how high he goes and how much we like his landing spot. Even as early as Round 2 of the rookie draft, he is a boom-bust pick.
If McConkey helped his stock at the combine, Troy Franklin probably didn’t. He can absolutely fly and he caught 81 passes for 1,383 yards and 14 touchdowns last year at Oregon. But he has size concerns, and his combine performance wasn’t what he expected. If Buffalo was willing to trade out of Round 1 if Worthy became available, it might be because they think Franklin is that good. Or maybe they’re looking for a wide receiver like Mitchell. Expect Franklin to be a rookie pick in the middle of the second round, unless he is selected very early on Friday. He is a very different receiver than Mitchell, but shares a speed-downside profile,

This draft class after Brock Bowers is full of questions with very few definite answers. If a tight end is drafted in Round 2 of the NFL Draft, he will enter in Round 2 of the Rookie Draft. More than likely, these guys are going to be selected in Round 3 or later. How you rank them depends on what you value. Theo Johnson has the best size-speed-athleticism. When you contextualize Ben Sinnott’s production within the Kansas State offense he stands out. Ja’Tavion Sanders passes eye test. I lean towards Johnson ahead of the draft, but even more so at running back I rely on draft capital and situational fit. I’m very hesitant to draft any of these guys in the top 30 picks of any rookie draft that isn’t a premium tight end.
