The association’s commissioner made it clear during a state dinner at the White House in D.C. on Thursday that he and his organization are still fully committed to reaching a new deal with TNT — despite reports that the two sides are still far apart.
Silver didn’t say where exactly the two sides stand … but he did say, “We’re all still in conversations.”
He said, “Who knows how it will work out?”
TNT has long held the rights to NBA games … but after failing to reach a contract extension with the Silver League during an exclusive 45-day period earlier this year – there’s growing speculation that the Association will soon find a new dancing partner or partners.
Reportedly, NBC, Disney, and Amazon are all interested in jumping in, while TNT has lagged behind.
If a deal ultimately cannot be reached with the network, the biggest concern among basketball fans will be the future of the marquee studio show, “Inside the NBA.”
For years, Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’neal, Kenny “The Jet” Smith And Charles Barclay The program has been entertaining fans before, after, and during games … and many have wondered if they’ll continue to do so if TNT and the NBA are no longer partners.
However, Silver didn’t seem too worried about this potential outcome … saying he’s hopeful the Dream Team will stay together no matter what.
As of now, TNT and the NBA are tied together for one more season… but after that – it’s hard to predict where things will go.
