Adobe brings Firefly AI-powered Generative Remove to Lightroom | TechCrunch

Adobe on Tuesday announced the addition of the Generative Remove feature to Lightroom. Built on top of Firefly, the General AI feature makes it possible to seamlessly edit objects from photos. This feature comes as early access on Tuesday.

Adobe says the feature is up to the task no matter how complex the object is set against a background. “Generative Remove is helpful in editing even the most complex backgrounds and environments,” the company says, “This includes removing stains from patterned shirts, tablecloth creases in food photography, unwanted reflections in water, and more.”

Photoshop developer announces its foray into generative AI back in march 2023,

“Firefly is the next step on our AI journey – bringing together our new ‘GenTech’ model with decades of investment in imaging, typography, illustration and producing assets,” the company told TechCrunch at the time. “We will bring this value to our customers’ workflows where content is created across Creative Cloud, Experience Cloud and Document Cloud.”

At launch, the offering provided text-to-image generation and the ability to customize images into different styles. In the intervening 14 months, Adobe has brought Firefly to its video suiteused to design it vector graphics in illustrator and a couple generative fill facility,

The company says it is working closely with its photography community to improve and expand the new Remove tool.

Adobe also announced on Tuesday the availability of generative lens blur, which can be used to create a Bokeh-style effect to add a sense of depth to images.
