After a tricky first season for EA FC, now it has Ronaldo breathing down its neck – How to play the UFL open beta

Losing or giving the FIFA branding depends on who you talk to, this was always going to be a test for the world’s most popular football game. EA FC 24, aka FIFA 23, has had gas problems during its inaugural season, including Bugs and errors And a lot of people are complaining that it’s not as good as FIFA. Whether this is all in the mind or not, it’s nothing compared to the blow Konami suffered when it first launched eFootball’s disastrous first year, which it’s still trying to recover from.

So it’s unclear if there’s any gap in the wall for an insolent competitor, but with rumours that 2K are going to announce their acquisition of the FIFA licence any minute now, we also now have UFL – the Ronaldo (R7, not R9, if you go for that sort of thing) backed underdog that he’s apparently put $40 million of his own cash into. Now as much as that’s a bit of me throwing ten pounds at it, it still brings a celebrity endorsement we haven’t seen before.

So what then? Come and see

What is UFL?

UFL is a free-to-play competitor to EA FC and eFootball created by Cyprus-based Strikerz. It has been in development for around eight years and was first announced in 2021.

It’s been pretty quiet though, but after being in closed testing since the end of last year, it’s now ready to come out of the changing room and into the tunnel for a three-day open beta this weekend. That’s June 7-9 for you and me.

The game is said to match based on ability, but we don’t really know how it works, hopefully some factors will become more clear after the open beta.

How to play the UFL Open Beta

The trial period will begin on June 7, but you can already download UFL and make Ronaldo proud by heading to the Xbox or Playstation store and downloading it. We’ll share more about UFL once we’ve played it.
