Amanda Knox’s Conviction for Slander Upheld By Italian Court

It seems like this is a never ending saga Amanda Knox An Italian murder case was back in the spotlight on Wednesday after a prosecutor failed in his bid to have his last remaining conviction wiped out.

This week, Knox returned to the European country to seek an overturning of defamation charges against her in 2009 after she named the wrong man as an accomplice in the murder of her roommate. Meredith Kercher,

However, his efforts failed as he was again convicted of defamation charges in a court in Florence, Italy.

After the verdict was announced, Knox cried as the judge sentenced her to 3 years in prison, which she had already served. In other words, Knox got to go home to the US.

But, her attorney told NBC News that he was “deeply shocked by the outcome of the verdict and Amanda is extremely upset.”

You may remember that in 2007… Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecitowas originally charged with murder and sexual assault in the fatal stabbing and assault of Kercher inside her Perugia apartment, about 100 miles north of Rome.

Prosecutors speculated that the couple murdered Kercher and slit her throat during rough sex, generating international sensational news coverage.

Knox and Sollecito were eventually convicted and both sentenced to more than 20 years in Italian prisons.

The two spent the next four years behind bars while the courts repeatedly overturned their convictions. They were finally acquitted in 2015 by the country’s highest court – the Supreme Court of Cassation.

Nevertheless, Knox faced punishment in a separate defamation case after falsely accusing a local bar owner. Patrick LumumbaAccused of participating in the Kercher murder.
