Archetype Entertainment updates fans about Exodus

Archetype Entertainment, the gaming studio created by Wizards of the Coast, has taken to YouTube to post a second ‘Founders Q&A’ update. Some of the faces at the studio will be well known to fans of the famous Mass Effect series. Three alumni of that record-breaking set of games led the development of Exodus.

Studio head James Ohlen, Chad Robertson as general manager, and renowned fiction writer Drew Karpyshyn are all award-winning gaming veterans.

Ohlen said the creative team divided all the science-fiction writers they admired into four tiers. He added, “We really wanted to involve some of the greatest science-fiction minds in building this universe. I was hoping that we would get a writer from Tier 3 or 4, but not a writer from Tier 1 or 2. Then we found out Peter Hamilton was a possibility.”

Acclaimed British sci-fi author Peter F. Hamilton has joined the team to help craft the universe and has released a book, Exodus: The Archimedes Engine, a precursor to the game.

The video included a brief overview of the progress being made by the studio and a cameo mention of Matthew McConaughey. According to Robertson, “One thing we’ve seen that’s exciting is all the (fan) theories about how Matthew plays a role in our game.”

Ohlen continued, “Matthew’s character will have a big presence in the game. from the very start. till the end. For the game’s epilogue.”

“Partners are a big part of Exodus, we understand how important they are to players,” Robertson said. “We have amazing diverse partners that we have put together. I would love to reveal a bunch of them today but so far we’ve only revealed one and that’s Elise.’

Alice The shot was briefly teased by Archetype in the announcement video with the #lovestofight hashtag.

When asked about the inhabitants of the universe, Ohlen stated that the term “alien” does not apply to the broader group of life-forms that players encounter during their space-faring.

He said, “Everything in the universe of Exodus has terrestrial origins, however, they have evolved over thousands of years. So some of them have evolved into incredibly strange, wonderful and strange creatures. They’re much weirder than other classic aliens you might see in other science fiction franchises.

Over the past few years, only a few role-playing games could live up to the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series. Narratively, the only successor that can rival BioWare’s crown is Larian Studios, which interestingly will be severing ties with Hasbro, because we reported,

owns hasbro wizard of the coast and the company’s gaming division which in turn runs Archetype.

Hasbro has a large Baldur’s Gate 3-shaped hole with projected profits on either side Larian is going And in terms of titles that fans are eagerly waiting for.

One constant in the success of Mass Effect and Dragon Age is the tag-team of Ohlen and Karpyshyn. The two worked on Dragon Age, Neverwinter, Baldur’s Gate, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. So their Chevrons are top tier in the gaming world, as are their prize cabinets.

“We both want to express our appreciation for the support we’ve been receiving online, on our social channels and through the press,” the video concludes. “That early support from the community means a lot to us and the entire team. Thanks, and stay tuned!”
