Assam CM reviews progress of Rs. 375 crore Mother & Child Hospital wing at GMCH – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma Reached the Guwahati campus on Monday Medical college & visited the hospital and reviewed the progress Construction in front of Maternal and Child Hospital The wing is being constructed at a cost of Rs 375 crore, and has 8 floors excluding basement and ground floor and has a total area of ​​56,840 square metres.

Sarma chaired a meeting attended by senior officials of the health department and GMCH officials to discuss matters related to filling up of vacant faculty posts, recruitment of staff, capacity expansion, etc of the medical college and hospital.

Sarma said the purpose of his visit was to see the progress on the construction front of the upcoming “Maternal and Child Wing” of GMCH and to get a first-hand idea of ​​its floor-plan. He said the need for a wing fully dedicated to maternal and child medical matters was felt for a long time due to the increasing number of patients coming to GMCH for treatment. Sarma said the Mother and Child Hospital, when operational, will greatly contribute to enhancing the capacity and efficiency of GMCH in dealing with such medical cases.

The Chief Minister said that about 70 percent of the construction work of the Mother and Child Hospital has been completed and the remaining 30 percent work is likely to be completed by April 2025 or before.

State Cancer Institute And this Cardiothoracic and Neuroscience Center Speaking about the importance of a strong public healthcare delivery system in the state, the Chief Minister said that the hospitals of GMCH are making significant contributions in making modern healthcare services affordable and accessible to all.

The chief minister said that since various departments, including the super-speciality departments of GMCH, have started getting their own dedicated buildings, the present “main” building will eventually house only three departments. This will result in less crowding of patients, thus reducing the spread of infection among patients and visitors, he said.

The Chief Minister directed the Health Department officials to expedite the process of filling up the vacant teaching posts in the state’s medical colleges and hospitals. He advised the GMCH authorities to use solar-powered electricity instead of conventional electricity for their daily energy needs.
