Balzer elevated to Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Longwood – Women’s HoopDirt

Rachel Balzer has been promoted to assistant women’s basketball coach, Longwood head coach Erica Lang-Montgomery The announcement was made on Wednesday.

Entering his second season on the staff at Farmville, Balzer was the Lancers’ director of basketball operations and player development through the summer of 2023.

In his first season at Longwood, Balzer coached two All-Big South performers while helping lead Otafo AsenaBear Kudos to a pair of Big South Freshmen of the Week. Additionally, Balzer trained guards. Kiki McIntyre 20th best steals-per-game mark in NCAA Division I women’s basketball at 2.77.

“Rachel earned this promotion,” said Lang-Montgomery, who will be heading into her third season as Longwood’s head coach in 2024-25. “She has proven to be someone our program and staff can count on. He worked very hard this season, wore many hats and performed at a high level. We are excited to see him grow as an assistant coach.”

Balzer came from George Mason, where she spent four years as a member of the women’s basketball team. His career was cut short due to injuries, but he spent his final year in Fairfax as a coaching intern for the Patriots.

“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to play a role in building the Longwood women’s basketball program,” Balzer said. “It has been a privilege to work with Coach E. She is a leader and mentor who empowers those around her to learn and grow professionally. The future of this program is extremely bright.”

Lang-Montgomery will announce the remainder of its coaching and support staff for the 2024–25 season in the coming days.
