‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ synopsis: Here’s the story

After a gap of several decades, Beverly Hills Cop The return of the franchise, with Eddie Murphy once again taking on the comedic lead role. Warning: there are spoilers ahead!

Beverly Hills Cop 4 has technically been in development since the mid-1990s. In other words, it spent all that time in “development hell.” The positive side is that at least it dodged the directing bullet by Brett Ratner,

Axel F It begins when the title detective returns to Beverly Hills because his daughter, Jane, is in danger. She is a defense attorney representing an alleged cop killer. In a surprising dose of realism, the big bad is a member of law enforcement.

Kevin Bacon had a lot of fun playing the villain as BHPD Captain Grant. He (the character, not the beloved actor) is in cahoots with a cartel.

Speaking of great actors, Joseph Gordon-Levitt appears in the role of Detective Bobby Abbott. He is Jane’s ex-husband, which causes some tension between Jane and her father.

Judge Reinhold (fun fact: that’s just his name; he doesn’t sit on the bench) reprises his role as Axel’s PI friend Billy. It’s a small role, but it would have been awkward filming it without him.

Obviously, there’s plenty of action. Helicopters, shootouts and lots of laughter too.

‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ ending, explained

So what happened to Billy? After he asked Jane to check on Captain Grant and then called Axel to town, Billy disappeared. The cartel caught him spying and kidnapped him. Eventually, Axel and Bobby rescue him from the warehouse.

But the big bad is not in a warehouse, but in a mansion. He’s holding Jane captive (classic bad guy stuff) and plans to kill her to cover up his crimes (also classic bad guy stuff).

In a final shootout, the heroes kill the cartel members and (additionally) corrupt police.

Grant uses his privilege as the primary antagonist to injure Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F‘ is the main protagonist.

Meanwhile, Bobby kills Grant. This may seem like a passing of the proverbial torch. 30 years have passed in real time and in the movies, and the movie makes that clear.

Plus, Jane can prove that her client, the alleged cop-killer, is innocent. They now have proof of what Grant was doing – and that his henchmen framed Sam (her client). That’s great!

Movie #4 brings new nuances to the franchise

Axel Foley has new depth. Yes, action comedy can do that too.

Jane blames him for how his obsession with his job alienated his family from him, and how he did not try as hard as he could to keep in touch with them.

There are so many opportunities for laughter in this film, but it ends with a tearful moment – in which Axel admits his mistakes. He and Jane grow closer to each other by the end of the film, but it is an emotional scene.

Will there be anyone? Beverly Hills Cop 5?

According to Eddie Murphy, a fifth installment is already being discussed. However, a lot goes into making a movie.

after all, Beverly Hills Cop 4 took 30 years to become a reality. Hopefully the sequel won’t take that long either.
