Father’s Day should be a time to rethink parenting, so that the kids don’t run everything at home… hence the complaints Bill Maher,
The “Real Time” host talked up the whole “gentle parenting” movement where parents treat kids like right-thinking adults. Turns out that giving in to kids does a lot of harm to the kids the parents think they’re parenting. Bill noted that the typical high school student has the same level of anxiety as a psychiatric patient in the early 1950s. That’s it.
Mr. Maher argues that the O.G. traditional father or traditional dad is the answer. Start treating the kids as they are — as non-judgmental little kids who need discipline and preparation for real life.
In other words, be a strict parent. When kids ask you why they need to do something, answer “Because I said so.” This is a valid answer.
If the goal is to raise kids so they can function and excel even after being left in the wild, then the gentle parenting father is empirically a total failure, so be tough!!!
