There was a lot of discussion online about Cardi’s statement.

“I see a lot of you guys fake gagging on Twitter,” Cardi said in a video. The video was reportedly first posted on Instagram, but has since been circulated by fans on X (formerly Twitter).

“I want to make it very clear, okay, first of all,” she began. “When I was on the red carpet, I was very scared because the dress had to be on a small podium and I was practicing posing on the podium, but on the carpet I wasn’t allowed to use the podium. So I was really nervous. I had a lot of things and I was being sent to the front of the line.”

She added, “So when I was being interviewed, I forgot to pronounce the designer’s name because his name was a little complicated. So I said, ‘Hey, how do I pronounce his name!’ Like, my mind was just racing.”

Cardi insisted that her use of the word “Asian” was not meant to be offensive. Actually, his intention was the opposite.

“I said ‘Asian designer’ because I knew the designer was Asian, but I didn’t say that, I wasn’t sure what nationality the designer was,” she said. “And I think it’s disrespectful if I’m like, ‘Oh, some Chinese designer’ or ‘Some Korean designer’ or ‘Some Vietnamese designer.’

She added, “I don’t want to mix anyone’s nationalities.”

As for the online discussion speculating that she might be banned from future Met Galas due to this incident, the artist has responded with a disparaging comment.

“For y’all saying things like, ‘She doesn’t know this,’ ‘She ain’t no fashion,’ ‘She won’t be invited this year,'” Cardi said, adding, “Baby, I’m Cardi B.”

Cardi also made sure to give Leigh her flowers on social media and shared a heartfelt thank you on her Instagram Story.

“I have to say another thank you to @windowsen, I chose you because of your amazing talent and you really made this Met Gala a night to remember,” she wrote in a video of herself posing in a dramatic outfit.

Li responded by reposting her message, adding “Thank you @iamcardib” along with a heart emoji.

Li — who is the founder and designer of independent fashion house, Windowsen — tells ET about the inspiration behind the dress.

“I associated the theme with fertile, black soil – like the rich earth that is used to grow crops and flowers,” he said in a statement. “The design is floral, reminiscent of garden trees, flowers and the earth. The entire dress uses approximately three thousand meters of organza and consists of an inner and an outer layer.”

Li said, “The collaboration took approximately two months from planning to implementation. Our entire studio worked around the clock on this project, making it an intense but rewarding experience. It’s an honor to design for an artist like Cardi B. But it is also full of uncertainty.” For me, with so many options available to such high-profile artists, the final decision of what to wear may not be made until the last minute, it remains uncertain until she actually walks on the red carpet wearing the dress. fitting and some final changes.”
