comedian James Gregory – famous for calling himself “the funniest man in America” - has died … according to a post from his family.
Gregory’s official Facebook post said James died of heart complications on Thursday.
James started doing comedy in the early ’80s when he was 36, after working as a salesman for several years… and, he became the first comedian to take the stage at Atlanta’s famous Punchline Club. Went. While he was best known as a Southern comedian, he spent the next four decades traveling across the country performing shows.
His biggest claim to fame came when he dubbed himself “The Funniest Man in America” in the 80’s… and, he later took the URL domain “Funniestman.com” – branding himself in the minds of his fans. Established as the funniest man.
In fact, it looks like JG plans to keep making people laugh for years to come… because he has two shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Hoover, Alabama.
Fans can learn even more about him in his upcoming autobiography, “A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes: The Life and Times of ‘The Funniest Man in America'”, to be released in November.
Gregroy is survived by his three nieces and other extended family. He was 78 years old.
