Chandler, 38, is also off the July 29 card … as the UFC will now try to rebook the fight at a later date.
Despite the announcement being made tonight, it was clear to MMA fans that something was wrong. A big press conference was scheduled in Dublin to promote the fight, but it was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation given.
In fact, Chandler had just minutes left to board a flight to Ireland for a media event … but he was informed of the change in time to make his layover in the US.
Now, unfortunately, we know.
But, all is not lost. The UFC acted quickly … and has now booked a rematch between the light heavyweight champion (and former middleweight title holder). Alex Pereira and former champion Jiri Prochazka,
Earlier, both the players had fought in UFC 295. AP had won the match.
The UFC has also set up Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopez as the co-main event.
While these are both very good fights — perhaps even great — it’s still a disappointing night for fans who have been waiting for the return of McGregor, the former champion who hasn’t fought since fracturing his leg. dustin poirier In July 2021.
