After almost 20 years Tom Cruise And dakota fanning Worked together in Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction thriller war of the WorldsThe action superstar still makes sure to keep in touch with his on-screen daughter every year.
Fanning walked the carpet at the world premiere of her new horror thriller The Watchers, He spoke to ET at the event, held at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on Sunday. She still gets birthday presents from Cruise Till today.
“He sends me something every year,” Fanning said. celebrated my 30th birthday in February“When I was 11, he gave me my first cellphone; it was my first gift from him. And he remembers it every year since then.”
in 2005 war of the WorldsCruise, 61, played Ray Ferrier, a divorced father of two who tries to keep his kids safe from a violent alien invasion. Fanning played Rachel Ferrier, with Justin Chatwin playing her older brother Robbie. Fanning was 10 years old when she shot the project and 11 when the film was released.
According to Fanning, she thought the sweet relationship would come to an end after all these years, but it didn’t.
“I’m always like, ‘Maybe when I’m 18?’ Like that would be a normal place, you know what I mean? Or 21 or something. And then she said a couple of years ago that she likes having that once a year check-in moment,” Fanning explained. “It’s very thoughtful and I really appreciate it.”
Now that she’s 30, Fanning feels like she’s entering a new chapter and the actress explained, “I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities that I have right now, and that I’ve had in the past.”
Fanning said she appreciates her success, and wants to focus on “just living in the present and enjoying it and never getting too ahead of myself”.
In his new movie The Watchers — one of her first horror films since childhood — marked the first time Fanning worked with director Ishana Night Shyamalan, who is her daughter M. Night ShyamalanThe actress has great appreciation for his technique.
“She’s such a wonderful person. She has a very open spirit and kindness and she’s great at collaborating and she loves collaborating and being with a group of people,” Fanning praised. “So it was a very playful, collaborative environment.”
