On behalf of the United States, I extend my best wishes to the people of the Congo and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the 64th anniversary of their independence.
I particularly congratulate the people of Congo for their commitment to peaceful democratic participation and for ensuring that their voices were heard in the recent elections.
In the year ahead we look forward to further deepening our partnership to advance our shared goals, including peace and security, respect for human rights, improved health and educational outcomes, a stronger economy, and people-centered conservation of the Congo Basin.
