Following his allegation, a health official assured a probe into the episode and the police said they were investigating. “Last month, while he was playing with his friends, he injured his leg. He was admitted to the Shahpur sub-district hospital on June 15 and was undergoing treatment. Doctors recently performed a circumcision surgery on his private part instead of the injured leg,” the minor’s parents said.

Later, realising their mistake, the doctors performed surgery on his injured leg, they told reporters. The parents also lodged a complaint with the Shahpur police. Though no case has been registered in this regard yet, a police officer said the complaint was under investigation.

District civil surgeon Dr Kailash Pawar said health officials would investigate the allegations. Gajendra Pawar, medical officer at the hospital, told reporters that apart from the leg injury, the boy also suffered from phimosis (tightening of the foreskin). “We had to perform two operations,” he said.

Regarding informing the parents about the second operation, he said the doctors may have forgotten to tell them or they may have informed other relatives of the patient. What the doctors did was right and there was nothing wrong in it. But the parents refused to accept the explanation given by the doctors, Pawar said. The doctors said that two patients of the same age group underwent surgery at the hospital on the same day.
