Football: TCU CB Josh Newton selected by Cincinnati Bengals in Round 5 of 2024 NFL Draft

TCU Cornerback Josh Newton goes off the board in the fifth round of 2024 nfl draft on Saturday afternoon, with cincinnati bengals The two-time All-Big 12 honoree used the 149th overall selection. Fourth rounder Jared Wiley (kansas city chiefs) and third rounder Brandon Coleman (Washington Commanders, Newton played two seasons at TCU, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2022 and All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2023.

Newton totaled 68 tackles and four interceptions in his two seasons as a Horned Frog. The 6-foot, 190-pounder began his collegiate career at Louisiana-Monroe, where he played three seasons and recorded 84 tackles and three interceptions. Newton’s five-year collegiate career included 34 pass defenses, 12 of which came during the 2022 season when TCU reached the national title game. Newton will join a young Cincinnati secondary room that includes the veteran duo of Cam Taylor-Britt and DJ Turner II as well as former first-rounder Mike Hilton and Dax Hill.
