It lasted 110 minutes, but Google managed to reference AI 121 times during this time Google I/O 2024 (By your own count). CEO Sundar Pichai cited the figure to end the presentation, cheekily saying that the company was “working hard” to count for us.

Of course, it’s no surprise that the topic took center stage, but still, it’s an impressive figure for a presentation that lasted nearly 110 minutes, all told.

Gemini and its various iterations headlined (after preshow warmup act Marc Rebillet was eliminated). Google is incorporating LLM-based platforms into almost every one of its offerings, including Android, Search, and Gmail.

The tech giant had a tough task to follow OpenAI’s final GPT announcement The day before, a lot of air had gone out of the room at the Shoreline Amphitheater. It is also expected that Apple may announce a deal to incorporate OpenAI’s technology into its offerings as part of its own developer conference, WWDC, next month.
