Hiroyuki Sanada Shares Updates on ‘Shōgun’ Season 2, ‘Mortal Kombat 2’

For Hiroyuki Sanadaget to work Shogun, As a star and a producer, he made the project even more personal — and gave him the chance to help take the show into uncharted territory.

Sanada walked on the carpet a special Shogun FYC event at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, where he spoke with ET’s Ash Crosson about the acclaimed series, and Monumentally helpful feedback from fans and critics.

“We got a lot of great experience from the world and [the response] “It was more than I expected,” Sanada said. “So yeah, we’re very happy, and I want to say thank you to all the viewers around the world.”

In Shogun, Sanada stars as the powerful Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) in 1600s Japan, who is struggling against a number of political rivals and warlords before he meets English marine pilot and soldier John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), Toranaga’s loyal subject who serves as a translator between him and Blackthorne.

Shogun, Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the series is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell. The first season told almost the entire story of the book – which means the show’s renewal for a second season will push it beyond the boundaries of its source material.

“It’s a big challenge, but we have real history and models,” Sanada explained. “We also learned the spirit of James Clavell and how to convey it in the show and story.”

Sanada admits it may be “more difficult than the first attempt” [season]”But the historical stories from that time period are very meaningful.”

He said, “I want to think about the possibility of how to make better seasons based on the experiences of Season 1 and then move on to the next step. That’s my hope.” “Then, as a producer, [I’m looking at] Maintaining this platform where Japanese stories and talents can be presented to the world is my mission.”

So when can fans expect a second season? Shogun? According to Sanada, “It all depends on the script, and when we can create a good script.”

“But I want to get into it as soon as possible. I want to show it to the world,” he said.

As Season 2 is being developed, Sanada also shared an update about it The long-awaited sequel mortal KombatIn the 2021 version of the iconic and famous violent video game, Sanada plays Scorpion – and he’s back for more deadly battles this time around.

Sanada said that fans can “expect to see most of the characters [the first] movie,” which didn’t die, as well as “some great new characters. Like four or five great new characters in it. So yeah! I’m very excited.”

“They’re working really hard on the VFX now,” Sanada said of the production team. Mortal Kombat 2Which will be released in theatres in October.

In the meantime, all 10 episodes of FX Shogun are now available to stream on Hulu.
