Arcane Austin’s classic, Prey, is underappreciated
Releasing shortly after Arkane’s success with Dishonored 2, Prey is their sci-fi immersive sim set on a distressed space station, Talos 1, and is criminally understated. With a Metacritic score of 81, the game never took off like it should have. Now is the perfect opportunity to pick it up cheap and right the wrong.
It’s a first-person shooter stealth em up that introduces alien powers and incredibly tense moments across the board, coupled with an intense atmosphere and excellent performances from all the cast. There are multiple ways to tackle (or really mess with) missions and it really stays true to the “choose your own path” style they’ve perfected with the Dishonored series.
This is a true tragedy Microsoft closes the doors of Arkane Austin Because that means we’ll never see a follow-up to this extraordinary game (or the Dishonored games, which are equally worthy of your time and attention).
