IMA welcomes CBI probe into NEET-UG irregularities – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: The IMA on Sunday welcomed the government’s decision to hand over the probe into alleged irregularities in NEET-UG to the CBI. Central Bureau of Investigation The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday registered an FIR in connection with alleged irregularities in the Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) held on May 5 on a reference from the Union Education Ministry, amid nationwide protests and litigation by students to probe paper leak claims.

The CBI action comes a day after the ministry announced handing over the probe into the alleged irregularities to the central agency, a demand raised by a section of protesting students.

The NTA conducted a re-examination at six centres for 1,563 students who got grace marks in NEET-UG to make up for the lack of time. An unprecedented 67 students scored 720 marks in the history of the NTA, six of them from a single centre in Faridabad, Haryana, raising suspicion of irregularities.

NEET-UG is conducted for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions.

“We appreciate the government for enacting stringent laws to combat corruption and irregularities,” the IMA statement said. It said that students are the future of India and it is imperative that important competitive examinations are conducted with utmost diligence and confidentiality.

The association said, “We believe that the difficulties being faced by NEET-PG students are an inevitable outcome of the welcome reforms of the government and we look forward to a robust mechanism as promised by the government.”

The Health Ministry on Saturday postponed the NEET-PG exam scheduled to be held on June 23 as a “precautionary measure” in the wake of recent allegations on the sanctity of some competitive exams.

The IMA urged the government to take immediate action to ensure that counselling for admission to medical, dental and other courses begins on time.
