Imposing Sanctions on Entities Supporting Russia’s Malign Activities in Africa – United States Department of State

The United States today is designating two entities based in the Central African Republic (CAR) for their efforts to support destabilizing activities by the Kremlin-backed Wagner Group in Africa. Mining Industries SARLU and Logistics Economique Etranger SARLU have played a key role in enabling the Wagner Group’s security operations and illicit mining efforts in the CAR.

Russia’s Wagner Group has committed widespread human rights violations and seized natural resources in several African countries. A proxy military force of the Kremlin, the Wagner Group has conducted combat operations around the world, including Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine.

Today’s action reflects our continued efforts to counter the Wagner Group’s harmful and destabilizing presence in Africa. The United States is committed to deterring and disrupting Russia’s destabilizing activities.

The United States has previously taken action against several companies linked to the Wagner Group in the CAR, including Lobaye Invest, Midas Resources SARLUAnd Bois Rouge SARLUnow known as Wood International Group SARLU.
