India, Denmark hold 4-day event to strengthen cooperation in fields of infectious diseases, One Health approach – ET HealthWorld

The inaugural session was attended by Ambassador of Denmark Freddy Svane, Director General of Health Services Professor Atul Goel and other senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“A four-day event to hold bilateral dialogue between the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), @MoHFW_India, Government of India and Statens Serum Institut (SSI), Ministry of the Interior and Health of the Kingdom of Denmark began today in New Delhi. The event aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the area of ​​infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and One Health approach,” the Health Ministry said in a post on X.

“Professor (Dr) Atul Goyal, DGHS, Shri Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark, and other senior officials from @MoHFW_India and Denmark attended the inaugural session,” the post said.

Director General of Health Services Professor Atul Goyal said that after Covid, we have to be prepared for the upcoming pandemic and for this cooperation is being done across the world.

“Collaborative discussions are ongoing between the NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control) and Denmark’s SSI (Statens Serum Institut). Some of the most important health issues facing us today include antimicrobial resistance (AMR), One Health and infectious disease prevention, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he told reporters.

“In the post-COVID era, we have to be prepared for the upcoming pandemics. That is why there are collaborations across the world. One of these collaborations is between India and Denmark,” he stressed.

Professor Goyal emphasized that exchange of experiences between India and Denmark will help in moving forward in all three areas.

Emphasising that the “One Health” approach is not an entirely new area and is about the health of the ecosystem, he said humanity has forgotten this ecosystem in its pursuit of development.

He said during the event, “Now, “One Health” is not a completely new field, although we all call it a new field. It is about the health of the ecosystem. For some reason, humanity forgot about this ecosystem in the pursuit of development. And it was abandoned. So it is good that everyone realised that not only all the living beings around us are important, but the environment is equally important.”

Asked if the MoU has been signed between the two countries, he said the two countries will celebrate the 75th anniversary of their relations and added “the MoU will be signed in a few days.”

DGHS said the Health Ministry has issued an advisory to all states regarding necessary precautions, and patients have also been advised to avoid going out in the heat.

He said, “They should complete their activities in the afternoon or after summer. They should not allow children to play during the heat. I am doing a small job. I walk with my cap wet. This is an old method to protect oneself from the heat.”

When asked about the death toll, he said, “I cannot tell you the exact number because the numbers that are released are not confirmed. Then there is a verbal post-mortem. The confirmed number of heat stroke deaths is finally released by the NCDC.”
