Jenna Bush Hager helped Hoda Kotb laugh at the wardrobe mishap during Today‘S 4th of July episode.
Kotb, 59, began fiddling with her red dress behind the anchor desk, admitting she felt like everything was “hanging out” during Thursday’s episode. TODAY with Hoda and Jenna,
“The bra isn’t working. The dress isn’t working. The bra is too big, the straps are too short. I can’t do this. When you wear a dress you know you shouldn’t wear it,” Kotb said.
While her costume malfunction happened in front of millions of viewers, Kotb explained her costume situation in very simple terms.
“You know when you’re like, ‘Everything’s not going well. This isn’t right.’ But you know, I just decided I’m going to do this,” she continued. “Have you ever been to a party and been like, ‘This is fine.’ And then you spend the whole party pulling, shoving and stuff? That’s not good.”
Bush Hager, 42, understood what her co-host was thinking, empathizing about having “too much cleavage” which she “doesn’t like,” to which Kotb agreed, saying, “I don’t want it. I don’t want it, it’s too much.”
When Kotb felt nervous about her dress “falling off,” Bush Hager joked that she should take off her bra altogether.
Bush Hager asked Kotb, “Will you ever be able to free your breasts?” Kotb insisted the answer was no.
Bush Hager furthered the topic by saying, “Free your breasts, Hoda. It’s time … at this point in your life when you’re almost 60, free your breasts. Let’s free them. You want me to take off your bra for you?”
Kotb firmly assured Bush Hager that the answer is always “no,” even when her co-host said she could take her bra off “very quickly and slide it off over her dress.”

Bush Hager’s comments about Kotb’s bra probably didn’t surprise her co-host too much since Kotb said she recognized Bush Hager’s authenticity during their first meeting. In April, the women reflected on their first impressions of each other during their “Spilling the E-T” segment.
“I thought you were so excited. You were a little scared, which I loved,” Kotb recalled. “But the thing I remember most about you that day, and every day since, is that you were 100 percent yourself. You were 100 percent yourself on the first day and you’re still 100 percent yourself five years later.”
