Karnataka health department bans artificial harmful colours in kebabs – ET HealthWorld

Bangalore: The Karnataka Health Department A notification was issued on Monday ordering that no kind of artificial colours should be used. Kebab Which includes vegetarian, chicken, fish and others.

Rule 59 Food Safety and Quality Act-2006 The punishment can be from 7 years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.

It has been reported by the media and general public that the quality of kebabs being sold across the state is poor due to artificial colours, adversely affecting public health.

Against this backdrop, 39 samples of kebabs sold across the State were collected, tested and analysed at Karnataka laboratories and the result showed that Sunset Yellow and Carmosine artificial colours were unsafe and hazardous to health, the release said.

In March, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had banned the food colouring agent. Rhodamine B which is widely used in recipes such as ‘Gobi Manchurian’And cotton candy.

Addressing the growing concerns over the presence of harmful chemicals in various food items, the Health Minister said, “We conducted a special drive on the Gobi Manchurian dish and found that harmful Rhodamine-B is being used in making this dish. It is a colouring agent hazardous to health.”

Pointing out the dangers posed by unsafe food practices, Gundu Rao said, “Many samples tested positive for the presence of Rhodamine-B. Some other artificial colours like tartrazine, carmoisine and sunset yellow were also found in the samples.”

He said, “Strict action will be taken against restaurants found using such chemicals to prepare food.” (ANI)
