“I took a whole year off,” he told host Alex Cooper on Wednesday’s episode. “But it was great.”
Hudson said she decided to try the exercise at age 30 on the advice of her therapist to help her break bad relationship patterns.
“I got to a point where I thought, ‘I don’t want to repeat any patterns anymore.'” Glass Onion the actress said. “And I have a great therapist who would say, ‘I can help you but you have to do it.'”
Hudson accepted the challenge. During the year, she couldn’t message boys or flirt – which she enjoyed. However, it was inconvenient as well as empowering.
“It was weirdly empowering, because it was very uncomfortable for me the first couple of months,” she said. “I was excited, I was like… it just felt like, ‘What am I doing? I’m not me.'”
Hudson explained that after an emotional conversation with her therapist, she realized the benefits of putting aside all the anxieties associated with men.
“I had this kind of breakthrough that was very emotional and I don’t think I would have gotten to if I was distracted,” she said. “It allowed me to see things a lot more clearly and then within six months I didn’t care about my phone. I didn’t care if I was going out with my girlfriend, like, I wonder if this is going to happen there, or like, we should call so-and-so and then do this.”
She added, “I had no desire to do anything that had to do with a possible flirtation.”
Hudson said that after the one-year period was over, she did not respond as much to messages from men and lost her attraction to some men. For the next three years, she remained happily single.
“I was very happy being alone,” she said. “I lived alone for three and a half years, I loved it.”
Hudson’s dating history includes rumored romances with Owen Wilson, Dax Shepard, Alex Rodriguez, and Nick Jonas. Hudson was married to The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson from 2000-2007. They also have 20-year-old son Ryder Robinson.

Hudson and Fujikawa, 37, got engaged in September 2021 after five years of dating. The couple have a daughter, Rani, 5.
