Sad and shocking news from the world of reality television this week:
KK Jabbar, a key cast member of the OWN series Love & Marriage: Huntsville, has reportedly died.
She was 42 years old.
Marcella Speaks — with whom Jabbar feuded on the popular show’s latest season — confirmed Jabbar’s death on Tuesday, July 2, following a statement from his family.
He read the message during a YouTube live stream, which showed footage of Jabbar dying “peacefully at home surrounded by love.”
The cause of death was not revealed.
The related statement said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved KK. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love.”
“She was a mother, a sister and a good friend full of life, love and laughter. She will be greatly missed and at this time, we are asking for respect and privacy in our time of grief as we cope with this great loss.”
Love & Marriage: Huntsville is the story of three high-powered African-American couples, longtime friends, who come together to revitalize the thriving town of Huntsville, Alabama, through their joint real estate venture, The Comeback Group.
Earlier this year, Jabbar was charged with drug use and using someone else’s urine to pass a drug test.
“I’ve never taken any hard drugs of any kind,” Jabbar said on the Love & Marriage: Huntsville reunion after being asked by show producer Carlos King, adding that she was sober and said on air:
“I never took anything, heroin, cocaine, crack … I never took anything like that.”
Also on Tuesday, Jabbar’s cousin and reality TV costar, LaTisha Scott, shared a post on Instagram requesting privacy amid the devastating news.
“At this time we are asking for respect and privacy in our time of grief while we come to terms with this great loss! This is so hard on our family!!!!!”
After news of Jabbar’s death spread on the Internet, fans offered their condolences in the comments section of his last Instagram post… which was a video from May 26.
The clip featured Jabbar announcing his swim wig line while celebrating Memorial Day weekend with his loved ones by the pool.
Jabbar is survived by her three children, husband, parents, and cousins.
In late May, Jabbar shared several photos celebrating his eldest son Amri’s high school graduation; he didn’t post anything on social media in June.
