King Charles Makes Joke About Pokemon, His Grandkids at State Banquet

King Charles He made a joke about Pokemon – and hinted that his grandchildren are fans.

75-year-old Charles hosted a state banquet to welcome Japanese citizens. Emperor Naruhito And Empress Masako Charles arrived in the U.K. on Tuesday, June 25. The king revealed that he and Naruhito, 64, have grown close over their love of opera and have gone on fishing expeditions together. Charles joked that he has tried to improve his fishing skills, as well as learn from Japanese pop culture.

“I’m sorry to report that I’ve had no better success in my recent attempts at fishing — the Pokémon phrase ‘gotta catch ’em all’ may resonate with my grandchildren, but for me, it’s probably aspirational,” King said during his speech.

Charles’s self-deprecating humour was directed towards his grandchildren, Prince William And Princess Kate‘s three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, are fans of the media franchise. (Charles’ grandchildren also include prince harry And Duchess Meghan Markle‘s son, Prince Archie, and daughter, Princess Lilibet.)
