Kurtwood Smith Says Laura Prepon Directed Half of ‘90s Show’ Season 2

Smith, 80, played Red Forman on the hit sitcom that ended in 2006. He reprises his character for the Netflix spinoff, which premieres in January 2023.

Smith and Debra Jo Rupp plays Eric’s grandparents on That ’90s Show (Topher Grace) and Donna’s daughter, Leia (Callie Haverda) Prepon, 44, has a recurring role, while Grace guest stars in the spinoff. Several characters from the original series appear in the first season.

“The biggest reason for the success of both seasons is that we enjoy each other’s company,” Smith said. “And we have fun doing it. I think this show is really about family, you know, about a big family.”

For Smith, the idea was that That ’70s Show Going back to the spinoff was a wise move.

“When we finished Show 70We did 200 episodes. And I thought that was the end. I didn’t think there would be a comeback,” he said. “But then when they started bringing the shows back and redoing them, I thought, ‘Well, they could do that with our show.’ It’s easy, because Debra Jo and I are still together and working. Sure enough, they called me one day and said, ‘What do you think of this?’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it.'”

16-episodes That ’90s Show: Part 2 Two batches of episodes will be released. The first episode will drop on Netflix on Thursday, June 27, and the second episode will drop on October 24.
