“I love psychological thrillers [but] “I can’t stand too much gore,” she said. “When you shoot on set it’s different. It’s an appreciation of artistry. There are incredible actors involved and watching them create these things layer by layer and you’re kind of taken aback by it. And then when they add everything in CGI and quick cuts, it’s completely different. I can’t stand gore, but I love psychological thrillers.”

Luckily for Grace, Blackwater Lake is less about body horror and more about the supernatural world. Grace said ghosts and spirits are something she has a personal connection to — even if she’s not sure she still believes in their existence.

Although Grace doesn’t believe in otherworldly spirits these days, she still loves the “mood” of supernatural thrillers – and has been told We Having him in England really helped bring the story to life.

“It was naturally a very historic place, with a lot of energy and it was very beautiful,” she said. “The pond literally had swans and weeping willows and a kind of Alice in Wonderland The garden. It was a really wild place to shoot.”

Grace said that bringing the characters to a foreign country such as England also helped build tension.

She added, “I loved the feeling of a fish out of water and the isolation that Minka’s character finds herself in in this life that she doesn’t recognize.” “And [she’s] I think she is in a country far away from her friends and family, where she is living alone. She has no idea who she is and how she got there. I think we have all had moments like that.”

Making Cass an unreliable narrator was also an added complexity to the film, which Grace feels audiences will appreciate. “We’re really on board with a character and her journey, but we’re not entirely sure what she’s going through,” she explained, “and how much we can rely on her perspective.”
