Rajesh Dighe, Assistant Health Officer of Pune Municipal Corporation, said, “A 46-year-old doctor and his teenage daughter living in Erandwane area of Pune city have been found infected with Zika virus. Both have been discharged from the hospital. After the doctor showed symptoms first, his sample was sent to NIV Pune. The report was received on June 21. Later, samples of his family were also sent for testing, the virus was confirmed in the daughter, while the virus was not confirmed in other family members.”

He further added, “In response to the cases, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) visited the area and conducted a thorough inspection. They have issued an advisory to citizens, urging them to keep their surroundings clean to prevent any possible outbreak.”

PMC assistant health officer Dr Rajesh Dighe said the Zika virus is transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also spreads diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. The PMC has taken precautionary measures, including fumigation, to prevent the spread of the virus.

The PMC has urged citizens to follow the guidelines and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Zika virus. They have assured that they are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to control the spread of the virus in the city. (ANI)
