Beats is defeated (and reveals his true identity)
Beats was eventually unmasked, and it was revealed that he fooled the entire panel repeatedly.
Ken was clearly wrong with his K-C and JoJo guess (causing Nick to get really angry at him for how bad a guess it was), but no one expected the truth.
As it turns out, beats are American Idol Alumni Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard!
“We like to compare ourselves to some of the people you’ve guessed,” Clay said. “I mean, they guessed Boyz II Men, we love that.”
“We love you all and thank you all so much,” Ruben said with a big smile.
What a fun conclusion to The Beats’ amazing masked singer run!
Gumball moves forward
While The Beats did their best, The Gumball won the hearts and minds of the panel and audience alike, and is now moving on to the next round.
Sadly, this means it’s time for Beats to call it quits.
Battle Royale!
Not a single battle royale this entire season has been as close as the one between The Beats and The Gumballs.
For this showdown, each performed their own rendition of “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life”, written by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.
The Beats gave a fairly straightforward performance of the tune, which, while efficient and impressive, seemed a bit weak, while The Gumball brought a fun, soulful quality that really brought the song to life.
As good as The Beats are, The Gumballs brought their A-game – and the panel noticed, too. It’s hard to imagine that Gumball didn’t definitely earn his spot in the semi-finals.
seal gets exposed
It’s no surprise that Seal got the chance first – despite his fun performance, he doesn’t bring much to the table besides charisma.
After all the judges made their final guesses, both Jenny and Robin guessed Corey Feldman.
And, in all honesty, it was quite clear that it was him goons Become a star before you get exposed.
However, in reality, he revealed himself to be Feldman – in a moment that pleased (but did not surprise) the panel.
Corey said of being The Seal, “It’s definitely the greatest character I’ve ever played.” “I like it when my face is covered and I can be as crazy as I want.”
Gumball deserves this win
There’s a reason why “Carry on Wayward Sun” has become such a beloved staple song – because it’s just an epic song and a chance to show off your seriousness.
Everyone knows the lyrics and if you can do it – really do it – you’re winning the hearts and minds of everyone in the room.
That’s exactly what The Gumball is doing this time, and it’s certain that he’s secured his spot in the semi-finals.
“He knocked it out of the freakin’ park!” Jenny announced, and Rita said that the number made her “emotional” because of how much she had contributed to it.
Panelists’ guesses:
Rita: Jack Black
Robin: Zachary Levi
Jenny: James Marsden
Gumball has imposter syndrome
Gumball got really candid during his clue package, and admitted that he “always felt out of place” when he performed on stage, as he had no formal training when it came to entertainment. Or there was no education.
That’s why she chose “Carry on Wayward Son”, because it’s all about believing in yourself.
It’s clear that Gumball is ready to win this, and it’s the perfect choice of song.
Seal…sings, sorta
Okay, so, there was a reason The Seal wasn’t included in this week’s promo.
It looks like whoever is under the SEAL mask may have only been trained on their first performance – which is something you see a lot of times when the contestant isn’t a professional.
But he still brought a lot of energy and charisma to the number, which the panel appreciated.
“That’s why this show is so great,” Robin said. “Because you made it so much fun. And we’re smiling, we’re laughing, we’re giggling, we’re singing along. Great song choice. I mean, what a great show.”
Panelists’ guesses:
Jenny: Corey Feldman
Robin: Macaulay Culkin
Rita: Jerry O’Connell
seal is an ex bad boy
Seal only has one performance, but he’s already a fan favorite.
In his clue package, The Seal says that he has had a “tour of Hollywood” since he was a kid.
He also says the press has labeled him a “bad boy” – but he wants to see how people see him.
That’s why he chose “It’s Tricky” by Run-DMC.
The Beats hit some major high notes
For their song, The Beats – one of the show’s best duos ever – chose Whitney Houston’s heart-touching “One Moment in Time,” and it brought down the house.
His inspiring performance clearly impressed the panel and enthused the audience.
“Honestly, I think the voices are amazing,” Ora gushed about the act. “that was beautiful!”
When it came to the bonus clue, it was revealed that Beats had a connection to Nick, and this strained the panelists’ deductive reasoning powers.
Panelists’ guesses:
Rita: Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men
Kane: Josh Groban and Brian McKnight.
Robin: Dan + Shay
Beats explains his song choices
For tonight’s theme, The Beats explained that they chose their tune because “it’s about a moment in your life that shows you what you’re capable of.”
For both beats, it’s the moment they become fathers — and it’s such a sweet moment of compassion that you wish they could go away.
That group performance!
It’s always great to see these group performances so far in the season – because there are always some great voices and excellent stars, but also great harmony because everyone on stage is at least good at singing.
Tonight, the trio is performing the Bon Jovi classic “It’s My Life” and the audience is here for it.
As Nick says, the performance was “amazing”, and he wasn’t wrong. It’s a great, lively way to start one of the last episodes before the semi-finals.
And off we go!
You can really feel the excitement (and a little apprehension) in the air as double elimination looms over the contestants, but this week’s theme is going to go a long way towards putting a smile on faces – everyone loves an iconic pop hit. Is!
What to expect from ‘Soundtrack of My Life’s Night’
The ‘Soundtrack of My Life’ theme seems quite open-ended (unlike transformer night theme from Week 6!), meaning fans can probably expect to hear some iconic classics and karaoke standards.
The teaser tells us that The Gumballs will be singing “Carry on Wayward Sun” by Kansas, while The Beats are set to sing “One Moment in Time” by Whitney Houston.
We’re also treated to a group performance as all three contestants perform a rendition of “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi. So get ready for some timeless tunes!
Who is left in the race this season?
As the Beats, the Gumballs and the Seals prepare to face off, they will compete for the last spot in the semi-finals.
So who is left from the remaining groups? Well, there is some serious competition around.
The Clock, The Goldfish and The Poodle Moth are all set for the top four of the semi-finals, and tonight’s winner could really have a chance to win it all.
Last week on The Masked Singer
Before Wednesday’s episode begins, let’s take a look back at last week Masked Singer– This is where fans got the chance to meet The Seal!
Seal came in as a wild card contestant and his adorable performance left the panel in awe. The Seal and Miss Cleocatra lost in the final two – and the Seal managed to take the lead.
This meant it was time for Miss Cleocatra to be unmasked – and she revealed herself to be none other than the great Jennifer Lewis!
Now, with a double elimination tonight, the question is whether or not Seal’s sweet personality will give him a chance against the likes of The Beats and The Gumballs!
