The city rescinded the “Sean Diddy Combs Day” proclamation after city commissioners voted unanimously to do so on Wednesday, June 26. The Miami Herald,
The former holiday was established in October 2016 by the then-Mayor Philip Levine to celebrate the Miami Beach resident. The move by commissioners is the latest result of a series of sexual assault lawsuits filed against the 54-year-old music legend. The controversy escalated last month when CNN released a 2016 video Surveillance video In which Diddy is seen attacking his ex-girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie VenturaIn the hallway of a hotel.
Diddy issued a statement on social media following the release of the footage. Apology video,
“It’s hard to reflect on the worst time of your life, sometimes you have to,” Diddy said. “I was very upset. I mean, I went through a lot of bad stuff, but I can’t make any excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disappointed.”
The rapper added, “I sought professional help. I’m going to therapy and rehab. I had to pray to God for His mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to becoming a better person every day. I’m not apologizing. I’m truly sorry.”
Cassie’s legal team took quick action React to the video,
“Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Meredith FiretogA partner at Wigdor LLP said in a statement on Sunday, May 19 our weekly,
“When Cassie and several other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested his victims were just looking for money,” Firetog added. “When his repeated denials were proven false, he was forced to simply ‘apologize,’ which shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”
Miami Beach isn’t the first city to strip an honor from a disgraced rapper and label head. New York City Mayor Eric Adams Diddy’s honorary key to the city revoked in response to the disturbing footage of the attack on Ventura.
