On behalf of the United States, I would like to congratulate the people of Mozambique on the 49th anniversary of their country’s independence.
There is much to celebrate in the partnership between our countries. We are working together to address the most pressing challenges of our time – health, climate change, deforestation, security and education. This year, as citizens of both our countries vote, our shared commitment to free, fair elections can demonstrate the power of a strong democracy in delivering growth and prosperity.
This is an important day and milestone, and we express our warmest wishes and hopes for a bright year ahead.
