My 2024 Summer Bucket List: 23 Ideas to Enjoy a Simple Summer

Eating out with friends in the summer

My whole goal this summer is to work less (and my 2024 summer bucket list reflects that). I say this every year, then immediately find a way to fill my time. June was busier than I wanted, so I’m looking at how and why that happened, even though my intention was to make more time for boredom.

These are golden years with my kids, ages six and seven (soon to be eight) and me want Encourage them to live in the present, work less, and teach them that it is okay to do so. coldIt’s been harder than I expected. I know it’s important and timely – because it’s a unique time in their lives. I don’t want to miss out on any of the normal, everyday things associated with summer.

Discomfort and need to slow down

Last weekend, we got a chance to do nothing on Friday and Saturday nights. I could feel myself wanting to fill the free time by either hanging out with someone or doing something to distract myself from being at home with my family. I could see my kids desperate to do the same. Instead, we settled down to watch some rainy day movies like hook And free WillyAnd I got curious as to why I would want to spend my time doing this, even when I am completely exhausted. I don’t have an exact answer yet. All I know is that slowing down It’s inherently uncomfortable if you’re not used to it (even for someone who calls themselves an introvert), and it takes time to get out of this uncomfortable state.

And so, my summer bucket list is short. I’m not going in with the expectation of doing too much, knowing that getting out of a lot of the schedule is good for everyone in my family, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. I’m hoping it will lead to more time for togetherness – moments that may not make it into a photo album, but will leave a mark on all of our hearts.
