Nebraska Football 2024 Spring Game: Three Husker Standouts, Two Questions and One Prediction

Congratulations Husker fans. Your team won and your team lost.

That is, unless you were rooting for the White Team to win 25-21. If you were playing for Team Red you are a loser.

Sorry, but these are the facts.

Anyway, on a day when it was hard to get excited and put too much emphasis on the debate, I wanted to give a list of three standouts, two questions I asked over the summer and a prediction.

As for the three standouts, as you will see they are all newcomers and all aggressive. One reason for this is that shiny new toys are always more exciting and it’s hard to get really excited to watch a defensive fight when it comes to this type of melee.

Overall, the Roosters look more explosive and physically bigger. Nebraska, on the other hand, could lose two potential starters to injuries to wide receiver Demetrius Bell and defensive back Bailey Hill.

We all want to make some proclamations when it comes to the quarterback room, but one thing I will say is that the room looks a lot better and part of that is attributed to the two new players (Dylan Raiola and Daniel Kaline), But I also have a bigger idea. Part of this is also due to Heinrich Harburg.

A lot can happen from today until the first game of the fall. Some players will leave. I believe if Nebraska can make a difference they may want to consider adding a player or two.

So as said, it’s 3-2-1 here.

Three Husker Standouts

Isaiah Nayor

Of course, I didn’t memorize the roster numbers at this point and the names weren’t on the back of the jerseys, so there was a play at the beginning of the first spring game where #18 caught the ball and ran toward the sideline. There were several flags thrown and the play came back on, but I couldn’t help but ask, “Who’s that?”

Well, through the magic of the Internet and the announcers on television, I found out that it was Isaiah Neyor. He’s one of those athletes who looks like he’s not even trying and just runs looking at people.

I’m not at all saying he’s Randy Moss but it’s the best example I can think of right now. It seems as if he is not even trying, instead he runs after people as if they had cement in their shoes.

That’s what I thought when I saw Nayor running with the ball. I think this is a good sign.

jecory barney jr

Probably the best light-hearted moment was on a kick-off return where Zackary Barney would have made it to the house if he hadn’t confused Tristan Alvano (kicker) as someone who was coming to celebrate instead of tackle him. Had been.

That’s what Tristan Alvano did, and he actually didn’t look too bad doing it.

But it’s a combination of that return and the 41 yard touchdown pass he got from Harberg that I think he has a great shot at being a weapon for this team as a true freshman.

Having roommates with Dylan Raiola certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Dante Dowdell

Another thing that stood out to me was the physical running game and who is #23? Well, like I said above, I didn’t remember the roster, and then I saw it was Dante Dowdell, a transfer from Oregon.

Dowdell had 76 rushing yards on 7 carries with a big touchdown run, which Matt Rhule was asked about after the scrimmage.

“Today, I saw an explosion in it. I haven’t seen such a long performance from him in other fights. Maybe it was blocked better, maybe Tony (White) didn’t attack as much today. I didn’t tell Tony what he could and couldn’t do. It was great to see this from Dante. He had a good spring, but you saw a blowout. When I’m standing there, you can see the level of acceleration on the long exposure below on the left.

two questions

Is the quarterback battle settled?

I think most people are assuming after watching the game and after last week’s reports that it looks like Dylan Raiola is the leader in the quarterback room. We love to celebrate the new quarterback who is five stars.

Remember Harrison Beck? He’s no Harrison Beck but still. hopefully. hopefully? hopefully!

Whoever starts for Nebraska against UTEP on August 31, I expect them to take care of the ball.

Until it becomes clear to the coaching staff that Dylan Raiola is the best of the group, I will admit that I am attracted to Henrik Harburg with his eight games of experience and 5-3 record.

Especially since he is getting a quarterback coach for the first time.

Will the coaching staff look for an experienced one-year quarterback in the transfer portal? Or what term group would they like to add?

Before the spring season arrived and Chubba Purdy transferred, I was already thinking that getting a veteran quarterback for one season with the arrival of Dylan Raiola would be ideal for Nebraska.

I understand why a kid wouldn’t want to come in and take that job (Kyle McCord) especially if you struggle early and there’s a five-star quarterback waiting there whose dad’s name is engraved on Flippin Stadium.

I think if Matt Rhule would be open to the idea he would have all kinds of transfers under his belt. It might not be fair to mess with this room, but if you said they had an experienced starter who knows how to win I think the over-under for season wins would increase by two.

As far as which other post groups would he be interested?

I think you’re always looking for a defensive lineman – no matter what. However, I think the group they could probably take a look at is the linebacking crew.

A prediction

I am absolutely, 100% ready to give my win/loss predictions.

Or not.

I think the easy prediction would be that Dylan Raiola will be the starting quarterback against UTEP.

So, I will go with this.

After the scrimmage yesterday, Zachary Barney said he would return a kick for a touchdown against Colorado. I have faith in him. This is my prediction.
