New Delhi: Amidst allegations digit inflation In NEET-UG Medical Entrance ExamThe National Testing Agency(NTA) It was announced on Saturday that the Ministry of Education has four member panel The NTA, which is seeking review of grace marks given to over 1,500 candidates, has denied any irregularities and said the changes made in the exam were wrong. NCERT Textbooks and grace marks for losing time at the exam centres were some of the reasons for students to score higher marks.

The issue has also taken a political colour. The AAP has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored SIT probe into the alleged irregularities. The Congress has alleged that paper leaks, rigging and corruption have become an integral part of many examinations. The party has also accused the BJP of deceiving the youth and playing with their future.

There are demands for re-examination from several regions, alleging that grace marks given to compensate for loss of time at six exam centres have led to inflated marks and tampered with the chances of other candidates.

These centres are in Meghalaya, Bahadurgarh in Haryana, Dantewada and Balod in Chhattisgarh, Surat in Gujarat and Chandigarh.

The result of the medical entrance exam was declared on June 4. 67 candidates had topped the exam, including six from a single centre in Haryana. A record 24 lakh candidates had registered for the exam this year.

“A high-level committee has been constituted to review the results of over 1,500 candidates. The four-member committee headed by a former UPSC chairman will submit its recommendations within a week and the results of these candidates may be revised,” NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh said at a press conference here.

He said, “The award of grace marks has not affected the qualifying criteria of the exam and review of the results of the affected candidates will not have any impact on the admission process.”

According to experts, the increase in marks in the NEET UG 2024 result may make it even more difficult to get a place in a medical school this year. Some aspiring students have turned to online platforms to demand cancellation of results and re-examination.

When asked whether the exam would be conducted again for some students, the NTA DG said it would be decided based on the recommendations of the committee.

“The aim is to ensure that the students who have lost their time do not suffer any loss or harm other students,” he said.

Singh denied any paper leak or irregularities in the examination and reiterated that the sanctity of this important examination has not been compromised.

The Kerala Congress alleged that the results have raised concerns over the authenticity of the national examination for medical courses with many students raising doubts over the process.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post written in Hindi on Friday, “The Modi government is directly responsible for this. Candidates appearing in recruitment exams are facing many irregularities, getting caught in the labyrinth of paper leaks, playing with their future. The BJP has betrayed the youth of the country.”

“We demand that there should be a high-level investigation under police supervision.” Supreme Court He said, “So that our talented students appearing in NEET and other examinations get justice.”

The Maharashtra government has sought immediate cancellation of the NEET exam held last month, alleging that its results have caused injustice to the students of the state.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said the latest NEET results trends have once again vindicated the DMK’s stand opposing the exam and reiterated that the entrance exam is against social justice and federalism.

NTA DG reiterated that the increase in cutoffs reflects Competitive Nature This decision has been taken based on the success of the examination and the high performance standards achieved by the candidates this year.

He said, “The number of candidates who appeared in 2023 was 20,38,596, while the number of candidates who appeared in 2024 increased to 23,33,297. The increase in the number of candidates naturally led to an increase in the number of high scorers due to the larger group of candidates.”

Explaining the logic behind awarding grace marks, Singh said the process is done using the formula formulated and adopted by the Supreme Court in its 2018 judgment.

“Regarding the concerns raised by the candidates through writ petitions and representations Disadvantages of the exam “The loss of time was compensated and 1,563 candidates were given compensation for the loss of time, and the revised marks of such candidates vary from -20 to 720 marks. Among these, the marks of two candidates are also 718 and 719 respectively due to compensation marks,” the official said.

On May 5, the NTA had claimed that at an exam centre in Rajasthan, some candidates walked out with the question paper after being given the wrong question paper. The agency had denied any leakage of the question paper.

A day later, the NTA had reiterated that reports claiming question paper leak in medical entrance exam NEET-UG are “completely baseless and unfounded”, and every question paper has been accounted for.
