New Delhi: Supreme Court The petitions related to the controversial case are to be heard on July 8. NEET-UGThese include petitions alleging irregularities in the examination held on May 5 and seeking direction to conduct the examination afresh. According to the cause list of July 8 uploaded on the website of the apex court, a batch of 26 petitions will come up for hearing before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) is conducted by whom? National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

NEET-UG, 2024 was held on May 5 at 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it.

Earlier the result was expected to be declared on June 14, but due to early completion of evaluation of answer sheets the result was declared on June 4.

Allegations of irregularities, including paper leaks, led to protests in several cities and debates between rival political parties.

Hearing on June 11 a plea seeking fresh conduct of the exam in the wake of alleged question paper leak and other irregularities, the apex court had said the sanctity of NEET-UG was affected and had sought response of the Centre and NTA on the plea.

However, the court refused to stay the counselling of successful candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS and other courses.

The apex court had on June 20 sought responses of the Centre, NTA and others on a batch of pleas, including those seeking cancellation of NEET-UG and a court-monitored probe amid growing outrage over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the all-India medical entrance exam.

While hearing separate petitions on the exam on June 18, the Supreme Court had said that even if there was “0.001 per cent negligence” on the part of anyone in the conduct of the exam, it should be dealt with strictly.

The Centre and the NTA had told the court on June 13 that they had cancelled the grace marks given to 1,563 candidates.

They were given the option of either re-taking the exam or forgoing the compensatory marks given for loss of time.

The NTA announced the revised rank list on Monday after releasing the results of the re-exam held on June 23.

A total of 67 students had scored a perfect 720 marks, unprecedented in the history of the NTA, with six students from a Haryana centre also featuring in the list, raising suspicion of irregularities in the exam held on May 5. It has been alleged that the 67 students shared the top rank due to grace marks.

The number of top ranked candidates in NEET-UG dropped from 67 to 61 after the NTA declared revised results on Monday.
