Olympus partners HCLTech to set up an R&D centre for medical tech in India – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: Global medical technology company Olympus Corporation has partnered with HCL Tech To set up a Research & Development (R&D) Offshore Development Centre (ODC) at HyderabadThe company says that this center will not only boost the medical technology landscape in India but will also help in expansion Olympus’ Activities towards new technology on global level.

The announcement was made during a meeting between D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) and Industries and Commerce (I&C), Government of Telangana. Komatireddy Venkat ReddyMinister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography, Government of Telangana and syed naveedGlobal Senior Vice President of Research & Development for Olympus Corporation in the United States.

The meeting also saw virtual participation of Andre Rogan, Chief Innovation Officer, Olympus Corporation from Tokyo, Japan. Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan IASIndia’s Consul General in New York Binaya Srikant Pradhan and other senior state officials were also part of the delegation.

How will this partnership bring improvements medical technology in India

Olympus is also preparing to set up an in-house company. R&D Center It will also be set up in India in the coming years, in addition to its existing R&D centres in Japan, the US and Europe.

In addition to building the ODC, Olympus will collaborate with Hyderabad-based AIG Hospitals on joint research projects. The partnership aims to leverage clinical expertise and insights from one of India’s premier healthcare institutions to advance the development of innovative medical solutions that meet the growing needs of patients worldwide.

Since the inception of Olympus Medical Systems India Pvt. Ltd. in 2009, the company has steadily expanded its operations in India, achieving tremendous growth with the support of its stakeholders.

With these initiatives, Olympus seeks to not only advance medical technology but also strengthen its global presence and enhance its ability to provide critical healthcare solutions.

What did Telangana minister say about this initiative?

Babu is also leading a delegation to the US to attract investments to the state of Telangana. The Telangana government had earlier hosted the senior leadership of Olympus Corporation during BioAsia 2024.

Expressing his excitement, Minister Babu said, “We are thrilled that Olympus Corporation, one of the world’s largest medical device companies, has chosen Hyderabad for its first investment in India, which includes an R&D center, marking a significant milestone for our city’s medical device ecosystem. With Hyderabad’s strong infrastructure, strategic location, and thriving community of innovative healthcare companies, this investment is set to be a game-changer for the medical device sector in India.”
