Owner of Delhi children’s hospital arrested after 7 newborns killed in fire – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested the owner of Naveen Kitchi children’s hospital after seven newborn babies died in a fire.

In a tragic incident, a massive fire broke out at a private children’s hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar late Saturday night, claiming the lives of seven newborn babies. Delhi fire incident Officials of the Defence Services (DFS) said that the fire broke out at around 11:30 pm in the Baby Care New Born Hospital and quickly spread to two adjacent buildings. Despite the efforts of 16 fire engines, the fire could not be controlled and it took a horrific form.

The two-storey building of the hospital housed oxygen cylinders, which exploded due to extreme heat, causing damage to nearby buildings.

According to another fire official, two boutiques, a part of IndusInd Bank, a shop on the ground floor, an ambulance and a scooter parked outside the building were also affected by the fire.

chairman Draupadi Murmu The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved parents, while Arvind Kejriwal Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj assured that those responsible for the negligence will be punished severely. Kejriwal also said that the government stands with the families who lost their children in the fire and will ensure proper treatment for the injured.

DFS chief Atul Garg confirmed that though 12 newborns were rescued from the hospital, seven of them died. Five babies are currently undergoing treatment at another hospital, some of whom have suffered minor burn injuries. The deceased have been taken to GTB Hospital for post-mortem.
