Padma Lakshmi Loves a Good Spray Tan: It’s Not Just ‘For White Girls’

“I thought it was only for white girls. But it’s not,” Lakshmi, 53, exclusively told IANS. our weekly On Wednesday, May 29, she opened up about her love for beauty treatments while promoting her Bare Necessities collaboration. “My girlfriend who does my hair is Filipino, and she told me, ‘No, it’s like body makeup. Just think of it like body makeup.'”

Lakshmi said changing her mindset about fake tan made her realise it’s a great tool that can help cover up a lot of “minor scars and bruises”.

“I bruise easily,” she confessed. “But now I love my legs. And even when we were taking pictures for this, I said, ‘Look, make it look nice and process the pictures, but don’t retouch my stretch marks.'”

The model explained that she was adamant about not getting any kind of manipulation, especially to her scars or vaccine marks, because it would just “look fake.”

“People are used to seeing me,” she said. “And so I never thought of it that way.”

Lakshmi admits she used to hate her legs, especially when she was a teenager, before she fully accepted her body.

“I didn’t wear shorts because I was basically like a stick,” she said We. “This was my height when I was 13 years old. I weighed just 35 kilos [or] I lost 40 pounds, and I felt really skinny and my neck felt really long.”

Lakshmi joked that she used to feel like she looked like a “hairy E.T.” during her “awkward teenager” phase. However, as she grew older, Lakshmi said she began to understand her flaws.

“I’m a grown-up myself, so I love my feet, even though they’re really sore and my legs are like a drunk girl’s – like I climb trees,” she said. “And I’m also allergic to mosquito bites and everything leaves a mark.”

Laxmi admitted that during the early days of her modelling career, she would “kill” to get into any film. Sports Illustrated. She finally got the call in 2023 and was given “three weeks” to “get fit” for the photoshoot. While preparing for it, Lakshmi realised that she does not focus on dieting but rather her priority is to eat “very well”.
