Rachel Brosnahan Mourns the Loss of Late Aunt Kate Spade

Rachel Brosnahan Paying tribute to her late aunt Kate Spade On his death anniversary.

“Sometimes there’s nothing left to say except I miss you,” Brosnahan, 33, wrote. Instagram on Wednesday, June 5, alongside a sweet throwback photo of Spade with his nieces and nephews. “Today marks 6 years without Katie 💚.”

Spade, a world-renowned fashion designer known for her popular handbags, died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 55. She is survived by her husband, andy spadeand their daughter, Frances Beatrix.

“We are all stunned by today’s tragedy,” the Spade family said. new York Times A statement at the time said. “We loved Kate very much and will miss her very much. We would request that our privacy be respected as we grieve at this difficult time.”

Kate and Andy married in 1994, a year after launching Kate Spade New York together. They continued to grow the company over the next decade, with Kate launching international and domestic lines. In 2004, they sold the majority of their company to Neiman Marcus. Kate eventually left the business to raise her daughter and spend time with her family, but she and Andy later launched Frances Valentine, a line of luxury handbags and shoes, before his death.

Brosnahan often takes to social media to reflect on her close relationship with her aunt. In June 2023, the actress shared that she was in New York City for her series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel She often brought up memories of Spade’s childhood.

“I’ve been thinking about Katy a lot lately because 10 years ago, when I was getting my start on Broadway, she let me stay in her spare bedroom until I figured out my living situation,” Brosnahan wrote. Instagram at the time. “She would include me in family dinner every night while we were in rehearsals and would keep extra food in the fridge for me when I got home from tech and previews.”

He said Kate always asked about his work and would turn up to the play’s opening ceremony wearing the “most amazing outfit”.

“She told me she cried in between bows because she was so proud. But I’m not alone in that feeling. That was the magic of Katie,” Brosnahan continued. “She loved so much that she often shed tears, and laughter ran through her whole body and joy radiated out of every pore she had,” she added. “She sprinkled stardust on everyone she came in contact with. I was lucky to be in her orbit.”

Kate has, in fact, been a vocal fan of Brosnahan’s career when she won a Golden Globe for her lead role in January 2018 The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Spade greatly admired his niece’s accomplishments.

“My daughter and I jumped for joy when she won,” Spade said. Page Six at the time. “She deserves this recognition, as she has put her heart and soul into this role. We are extremely proud.”
