The state government appealed to the apex court and urged a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra to stay the order.

“Why should we interfere in this,” the CJI initially said.

However, the bench agreed to consider the state government’s appeal after taking into consideration the arguments of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

The law officer said that with the effect of the High Court decision, about 1,000 such doctors will be back in service.

“We will issue a notice,” the bench said.
