The following statement is from spokesman Matthew Miller:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi. The Secretary of State and Foreign Minister discussed the proposal presented to Hamas, which would lead to an immediate ceasefire, secure the release of all hostages, and end the war in Gaza. The Secretary of State explained how the deal would facilitate a massive increase in humanitarian assistance, allow Palestinians to return to northern Gaza and begin the reconstruction of Gaza, among other benefits. The Secretary of State emphasized that the proposal is in the interest of both Israel and Palestine, as well as the long-term security of the region. He stressed that Hamas should accept the deal without delay. Secretary of State Blinken thanked Jordan for its leadership in providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians.
