Secretary Blinken’s Call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud – United States Department of State

The following statement is from spokesman Matthew Miller:

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The Secretary of State and Foreign Minister discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, including the release of hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian assistance, and improved humanitarian access to Gaza. They continued discussions about how to establish governance, security, and reconstruction in the post-conflict period in a manner that builds lasting peace and security, as well as steps to further advance regional integration. The Secretary of State and Foreign Minister also discussed shared objectives to promote regional stability, including efforts to reduce tensions along Israel’s northern border and end the conflict in Sudan. Secretary of State Blinken condemned Houthi attacks on international shipping and the detention of at least 50 Yemeni employees of United Nations agencies, member state diplomatic missions, private companies, international organizations, and nongovernmental organizations. He reiterated the call for their immediate release, stressing that the detention of United Nations and non-governmental staff directly and negatively impacts the organizations’ ability to provide humanitarian assistance.
