Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today in Israel with National Unity Party Chairman Benny Gantz. They discussed a proposal to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza as part of a hostage agreement that would ensure the release of all hostages and increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza. The Secretary commended Israel for the proposal and emphasized that Hamas should accept the agreement without delay. He reiterated that in addition to reuniting hostages with their loved ones, the proposal would advance Israel’s long-term security interests, including by opening up the possibility of restoring calm along Israel’s border with Lebanon, allowing Israelis to return to their homes.
