Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in Israel today. The Secretary of State and Defense Secretary discussed a proposal to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza under the hostage agreement, ensure the release of all hostages, and increase humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza. The Secretary of State commended Israel’s readiness to fulfill the agreement and affirmed that the responsibility to accept it rests with Hamas. He emphasized that the proposal would advance Israel’s long-term security interests, including by enabling the possibility of further integration in the region. He reaffirmed the United States’ steadfast commitment to Israel’s security.
