Secretary Blinken’s Meeting with UN Secretary-General Guterres – United States Department of State

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today in Washington, D.C. The Secretary thanked the Secretary-General for his public support of the proposed deal to reach a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of all hostages, and end the crisis in Gaza. The Secretary emphasized the importance of the Security Council speaking out to implement this deal without delay. Both Secretary Blinken and Secretary-General Guterres underscored the imperative to support the United Nations efforts to deliver humanitarian aid and life-saving assistance to people in Gaza. They also discussed U.S. cooperation with the United Nations in support of Ukraine’s efforts toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. Finally, the Secretary and Secretary-General discussed the importance of taking every measure to end the conflict and violence in Sudan, protect civilians, and scale up humanitarian assistance.
