Secretary Blinken’s Travel to France, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, and Italy – United States Department of State

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will travel to Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Qatar from June 10-12, 2024. The Secretary will discuss with partners the need to reach a ceasefire agreement that ensures the release of all hostages. He will emphasize the importance of accepting the proposal Hamas has put on the table, which is nearly identical to the proposal Hamas endorsed last month. The Secretary will discuss how the ceasefire proposal will benefit both Israelis and Palestinians. He will emphasize that it will reduce suffering in Gaza, greatly increase humanitarian aid, and allow Palestinians to return to their neighborhoods. It will open up the possibility of achieving peace on Israel’s northern border – so that displaced Israeli and Lebanese families can return to their homes – and set the conditions for further integration between Israel and its Arab neighbors, strengthen Israel’s long-term security and improve stability throughout the region. The Secretary will also continue to reiterate the need to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

In Jordan, the Foreign Minister will participate in a conference on the immediate humanitarian response in Gaza, jointly organised by Jordan, Egypt and the United Nations.

Prior to traveling to the Middle East, he is traveling with President Biden to Normandy and Paris, France, where they will commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and participate in his state visit from June 5-9. The Secretary will also accompany President Biden to the G7 Leaders Summit in Apulia, Italy, on June 13-14.
