‘Shōgun’s Anna Sawai Reacts to Fans Discovering Her J-Pop Band

Anna Sawai She is getting a lot of love for her role in FX historical drama Shogun – which has caused fans to become rekindled interest in some of his old projects outside of Hollywood.

The actress walked the carpet at a special event Shogun at the FYC event at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, where she spoke with ET’s Ash Crosson about how some fans have become really obsessed with the J-pop girl group she used to be a member of.

“Oh my god! I’ve seen some videos,” Sawai said, referring to clips of herself when she was a FAKY member.

“It’s weird, because it’s a career I gave up,” Sawai said of the unexpected praise for his time as a band member. “But, I guess, thank you?”

When asked if some sort of reunion with her old bandmates would ever be possible, Sawai said, “I don’t think so. I mean, I’m very happy with what I’m doing right now.”

“I’m glad I had that experience, but I left for a reason,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sawai is receiving praise and appreciation for his role. ShogunAnd she joins a number of A-list stars in the recent Actress Round Table Conference organized The Hollywood ReporterWhich included Jennifer Aniston, Jodie Foster, Nicole Kidman, Brie Larson, Sofia Vergara, Naomi Watts.

Recalling the experience, Sawai revealed who she would love to work with in the future and the actress shared her special love for Foster.

“I loved listening to him and I loved his work,” she said. “I think since meeting him, I’ve been kind of star-struck this whole time, and it would be amazing if I could work with him.”

In Shogun, Sawai plays Toda Mariko, a translator in 1600s Japan who travels through a dangerous world of warriors, kingdoms, and politics and facilitates communications between the powerful Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and English Marine pilot and soldier John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis).

Shogun, Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the series is based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name. The novel was previously adapted into a limited series that aired on NBC in September 1980.

Display has received universal critical acclaim and the tremendous number of fans, which Sawai said he “had no idea about” when he began filming.

“I think we were just reading these beautiful scripts and trying to bring it to life and I had no idea how it would be perceived,” he said. “But it’s been amazing.”

All 10 episodes of FX Shogun are available to stream on Hulu.
